TIPPECANOE CO., Ind. (WLFI) — On Saturday afternoon, more than 6,000 Duke Energy customers were without power in Tippecanoe County.

Duke Energy spokesperson Angeline Proteger said it happened just after 3 p.m. Proteger said the outage was caused by a squirrel getting into a Duke Energy substation.

Several traffic signals were affected, including signals in downtown Lafayette.

Chumley’s restaurant employee Valeria Myers said the outage caused problems for the business and more importantly the customers.
