WeTransfer To Introduce Music and Video Streaming – HUH.

Popular Dutch file-sharing service WeTransfer is preparing to enter the world of music streaming by launching a service of it’s own next week. They will provide a music and video player to host content, but are crucially setting themselves apart from the likes of SoundCloud, Spotify and Apple Music as they don’t intend on making any money from the streams.

Speaking to Bloomberg, WeTransfer’s marketing executive Maarten Kadiks said they hope to attract big name artists for exclusive tracks and videos to drive traffic and awareness to their file-sharing service, and to also help set them apart from competitors like Dropbox.

“We’re using music to put us on the map… the service can become one of the most popular, alternative digital distribution channels for music content. Musicians we’re having conversations with understand the value of connecting with our audience of creative tastemakers.”

WeTransfer has reportedly contacted representatives for Justin Bieber, Pharrell Williams and Madonna about using the new platform to promote forthcoming projects. Disclosure and Prince have previously released material using the service.

The company was recently valued at more than $100 million dollars and currently has 35 million monthly unique users globally.
